In 2014 my self and a small group of youth volunteers were commissioned by VasLan Media to create a collection of short films that documented some of Southern Glasgow’s historical and cultural sites. The exhibition was showcased in New Lanark where it was very well received over the summer months. During the project I worked with several young people mentoring them in the methods of film making, teaching them the basics and occasionally throwing in some classic techniques. The point of this exhibition was firstly to presents Southern Glasgow’s rich history by covering many different areas from the Cambuslang Miners to The David Livingston Centre. The second was to give young volunteers the skills, experience and a portfolio of film’s that would help secure places in higher education and a route into the creative industry. I’m proud to have been able to hopefully set these young filmmakers and artists on their way to long creative futures.
